  • Inspired by her mother (a classical violinist) and her maternal grandfather (a violin educator), Laufey started her music training at a very young age. She started learning piano by the time she was about 4 years old and the cello by the time she had turned 8.
  • She first came into the spotlight in 2014 when she was a finalist in Ísland Got Talent (the Icelandic edition of the globally popular Got Talent franchise – a British talent show-based TV format that debuted in June 2006 as America’s Got Talent which in turn inspired spinoffs in numerous other countries).
  • Around the same time, aged just about 15, she had performed as a cello soloist with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, an autonomous public institution under the auspices of the Icelandic Ministry of Education. The orchestra performs approximately 60 concerts each season.
  • Laufey was also a semi-finalist on The Voice Iceland (the Icelandic edition of The Voice, a popular international reality TV singing competition franchise) in 2015. She was the then-youngest competitor in the history of the series.
  • She eventually released her debut single in 2020 – titled Street by Street. It peaked at number one on the radio platform of Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV), Iceland’s national public-service broadcasting organization. She had penned down most of the initial tracks of her career in her college dorm room.
  • In the spring through summer of 2021, Laufey hosted a weekly music show on BBC Radio 3, a national radio station owned and operated by the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation, a public service broadcaster headquartered in London). It was titled Happy Harmonies and brought to the fore uplifting music, in a wide variety of genres.
  • An avid reader, she operates and hosts an online community called The Laufey Book Club.
